![]() ![]() Both of these are issues that can be offset with a good foundation of self-esteem and identities reflected back to the reader from the books they read. ![]() This is probably the first board book I can think of that addresses the issue of self-esteem and Eurocentric beauty standards, and I’m so glad it exists in the world. I’ve shared picture books about hair before, especially Black and Brown children loving their magical locks. Author Ruth Forman wrote the book when her young daughter expressed she didn’t like her curly hair as much as straight hair. The children are buoyant and play together joyfully. Summary: In this gorgeous and poetic board book, the reader follows four friends that wear their natural hair in different ways. ![]()
